1. Hi Anand, can you please introduce yourself and tell us what blog you started?

Hi everyone!

I’m Anand Choudhury, and I started Personality Mirror, a self-development blog about different personalities, but for now, I’ve mainly focused on writing about my type, the INFJ. At this moment, I’ve also added the INFP, but this will expand over time.

I am very happy to share that I started making money coaching, healing, and selling my courses. And I have made $3,000 in the last 4 months, though it’s a small amount, I am really very excited about this. I’m feeling extremely blessed to have connected the dots.

3. Congratulations on your achievement! Earning your first $3,000 online is a significant milestone for any blogger. Can you walk us through the process of how you made it happen? What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out and hoping to reach that same goal?

When I made my first $3,000 online, it was a big deal for me as a beginner!

I earned that income by selling coaching services and an eBook I wrote called “The Unstoppable INFJ,” which you can find on Amazon. I used both my blog and YouTube channel as starting points for my success and was able to attract more people and build a strong following.

For someone just starting out, here’s my advice:

• Be passionate about topic selection: Find a blogging niche and topic you’re genuinely passionate about and consider why you want to share it with others. Ask yourself how your blog can benefit your readers and if it can truly make a positive difference in their lives. Remember, there’s an audience for every kind of content out there.
• Create deep, positive impact: Whatever content you love to create, ask yourself how your content is going to change your reader’s life. It’s a deep question. But if you can answer this, you will arrange everything else to manifest your desired outcome of creating a massive impact in your reader’s life. The deeper you are able to create an impact in your reader’s life, the higher chances are your readers would be prepared to invest in your products and services.
• Deliver exceptional value: The secret lies in delivering 10X value and genuinely caring for them. Focus on providing remarkable value to your audience and genuinely care for their needs. Don’t prioritize money at the beginning of your journey. As you continue to create value, financial rewards will naturally follow.
• Build trust through authenticity: Be authentic and passionate in your writing and teachings. This approach will help you establish trust and foster genuine connections with your readers, who will be more inclined to seek solutions from you.
• Money as an outcome: Keep in mind that money is the outcome of the incredible value you create in the marketplace. When you prioritize money, it becomes challenging to deliver the priceless value your audience deserves.
• Discover your heartfelt motivation: To find your calling, dig deep into your inner self and ask what you’d love doing even if you weren’t paid for it. Whatever answer comes from your heart will resonate with others on an emotional level. This connection is magical and will help you build a community of loyal, enthusiastic fans for life.
• Cultivate loyal fans: By following these principles and creating content that truly speaks to your readers, you will develop a loyal audience that supports your work and stays with you throughout your blogging journey.

4. As a new blogger who has achieved success in such a short time, I’m sure our readers would be thrilled to know about the resources that have guided you on your journey. Could you share your top three favorite resources that have been instrumental in your growth as a blogger, and explain how they’ve contributed to your success so far?

As a beginner blogger, I felt overwhelmed by the vast amount of information out there on how to set up and run a successful blog.

I spent countless hours reading articles and watching YouTube videos, only to end up with a hodgepodge of outdated advice and confusing instructions. It seemed like I was getting nowhere, and my dream of having a thriving blog felt like it was slipping through my fingers.

However, that all changed when I discovered the Treasure Map to Blogging Success in 30 Days eBook. After investing in the eBook and immediately implementing the strategies laid out in the book, I was easily able to get more than 1,000 unique blog visitors with the majority of my traffic coming from countries like the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. “Aging” the website is beneficial because the longer your site is active or live, the more Google starts trusting you when you write more content, and as long as you are consistent with your efforts. This is more prominent after the 6-month and 12-month mark!

So, no matter how hard you try to optimize your website for search engines, it may not appear on the first page of Google search results if your blog is younger than 3-6 months. This may even be true for some that are 12 months, but it really depends on a lot of factors.

Another resource that I’m absolutely in love with is Canva. It’s just so easy to use! With all the images and design elements available, I can create amazing pins that catch people’s eyes. What I particularly like is the user-friendly interface – it’s so simple to customize each design to mix and match my brand for Personality Mirror. If you’re a blogger looking to up your Pinterest game, you gotta try Canva!

The third one I’d say is Grammarly. It has been an essential tool for me, particularly since English isn’t my native language. Plus, it helps me catch errors that I may have missed otherwise and that’s how it makes me sound more fluent and natural as a blogger. Because of it, I’m able to communicate my ideas more clearly and with more confidence, and I couldn’t imagine blogging without it.

5. Would you like to share with us an example of which page(s) you got pageviews for?

Ling: Before you answer that, Anand, I want to say that I’m so happy to hear The Treasure Map To Blogging Success in 30 Days is one of your favorite resources and that you saw results with it! This reminds me of our previous conversation (attached below to refresh your memory) when I e-mailed you to let you know I was naturally finding you on Google, which made me super excited about your progress! As an INFJ myself, I was searching for things, and saw you were ranking 1st and 2nd for many keywords!

Anand: Ah, yes, of course, I remember that email! How could I forget? That’s when I started to receive many readerships from fellow INFJs across the world!

Prior to sharing my results with readers of FinSavvy and Blog Savvy Panda, it’s important to mention this first.

While analyzing search engines, I’ve noticed that Google distributes traffic in a unique way to each individual within your niche. So, even if you write content similar to mine, it might not necessarily rank for that specific keyword. However, don’t be discouraged because your content is still likely to receive traffic for a different keyword.

Keep in mind, our results will vary from each other, and that’s actually great because it means there’s enough room for all of us to succeed. Just keep producing valuable content, and your hard work will be rewarded!

Here’s an example of what happened after writing a post about “INFJ memes”.

In fact, I held the top-ranking position for an entire year, which drove a substantial amount of traffic. However, my ranking has fluctuated between fourth and fifth position lately. I must confess that I haven’t updated the post for two years! Now is the time to redouble my efforts to help INFJs excel and showcase their talents.
After taking a break from my blog, I’m excited and determined to get back to it. So, I need to update that post to boost my search engine rankings again.

Here’s a handy tip I learned from Ling: if you have a post that’s already on the first page, you can potentially push it even higher with an update. You’ll see almost immediate results once you do!

An update doesn’t have to be a major overhaul. It could mean spending 10 minutes adding a few more points to your post. In my case, I could add about 5 to 10 more memes for my post, “the funniest INFJ memes” to keep the content fresh and interesting to my readers.

The truth is, you might see your post drop and bounce between positions #3 to #5 if you haven’t updated it for a while, which happened to me. Once I make updates, it should jump back to position #1 or #2 because Google will see it as I’m staying current and making the content fresh.

And for this keyword, “INFJ careers that make money”, I’m ranked 2nd to 3rd position, which outranks other authoritative sites in my niche!

6. It’s always great to see people putting what they’ve learned into action. I’m curious to know, which chapter from “The Treasure Map To Blogging Success in 30 Days” did you find to be the most useful and why?

I found the entire ebook to be exceptional, and I must confess that it’s difficult to choose a favorite chapter because they are all interconnected like a puzzle.

This perspective is a refreshing departure from the conventional method employed by many gurus who isolate each component and never mentioned how one thing can affect another.

As a content creator, I’ve experienced firsthand the disappointment that comes when people don’t appreciate the effort you put into your work or attempt to piggyback off your dedication. Despite this, I’ve come to understand that by concentrating on the positive influence my work has on my readers – such as helping them navigate their careers, relationships, and personal growth – I can stay driven and passionate.

Despite me being inactive on Pinterest for a little while, I have been consistently receiving between 200K to 300k monthly views to my Pinterest account, all thanks to the valuable techniques provided in the Treasure Map eBook.

I recently invested in another one of your guides, “The Golden Compass To Pinterest Traffic,” and I’m committed to following it in the coming months to boost my Pinterest growth even more. I can’t wait to see the results after implementing these Pinterest tips!

You can see my images, which link to my page, ranking in searches – that’s where users can click through to my blog. What’s interesting is that these are images users pinned directly from my blog; I didn’t even pin them myself!

If you search for the general term “INFJ”, you’ll also find me.

From my experience and what Ling taught us, when you write a post about a very specific topic and consistently work on it, your post will eventually show up for more general and popular search terms. This can lead to more people discovering, interacting with, and clicking on your content on Pinterest!

For example, a pin like “11 Best INFJ Careers,” featuring a text overlay on an image, can attract clicks to your post when people search for it on Pinterest. The Pinterest algorithm chose to rank my post for this one, which has brought visits and clicks to my blog.

11. I’m extremely proud of your progress and the results you’re seeing. From what you learned in your personal blogging journey, is there anything you’d like to share with us?

Yes, of course.

Let me tell you the truth, blogging is not easy as it looks. You may think you’re a good writer and hence you can become a great successful blogger. It may not be necessarily true. Ling emphasizes that good writing isn’t everything.

Apart from the writing, you need to be well versed in using CMS like WordPress, its plugins, its paid and free themes, and their performance on your blog including their loading speeds, understanding SEO and Google Analytics.

You need to determine what you want to blog about and whether it has the potential to be profitable. I know Ling mentioned that any blog can be profitable – it’s just a matter of how you spin your content and whether you’re choosing intentional keywords to target when drafting your blog posts.

On top of that, you should learn how to use social media to create a brand for yourself and to attract traffic to your blog – Pinterest is a great example because it’s a social media with a search engine component, which can give you so much potential!

Boy, what else can I think of?

Oh, yes! There are also strategies you need to learn to increase the retention time of your visitors. Don’t forget about increasing your domain authority, understanding backlinks, and so many other things!

But most importantly, once you have all of those components nailed, you can finally learn how to make money through blogging in your specific niche. Too many people skip all of those components before they ever get to make money with their blogs. They go in without a plan or strategy and think they can just write a random blog post, publish it, and make money right away. They don’t understand that they need to build the crucial foundations in order to achieve a successful and profitable blog.

I’ve done quite a bit of research in the past to see what types of content they churn out. From my observations, the one tricky thing with fashion blogs is you have to keep up with trends and be creative with your content.

If you’re into fashion, you’ll notice that clothing styles and accessories can change dramatically from season to season. One day skinny jeans are in, and the next day it’s wide-leg trousers, flares, or cargo pants. As a result, skinny jeans are dead (ever since 2019 and forward), so the post you wrote over 5 or even 10 years ago won’t be relevant anymore, so you’ll have to keep an eye out for what’s popular today.

With the ongoing changes, you’ll need to make sure to update your blog content regularly by swapping the old with fresh ideas so your readers are reading current content.

However, you’d be surprised that there are many people who are curious about fashion from the past. That means you can still blog about vintage fashion, iconic trends, and classic looks that may make their way back into style.

As you may or may not know, “the best” and “things to do” types of posts are highly searched by tourists. They are looking for the best spots and activities to visit in a certain city. Be sure to include plenty of details such as opening hours, prices, and location.

Examples include:

• The Best Sightseeing Spots in {insert city}
• The Best Local Restaurants for Authentic Cuisine in {insert city}
• The Best Budget-Friendly Activities to Do in {insert city}
• 10 Must-Visit Museums and Art Galleries in {insert city}

2. Write an article about your personal experience with a particular destination with photos

Nothing helps your readers imagine the places and activities more than a few good photographs. This could include pictures and videos.

For example, if I were to write a blog post about the best sushi restaurants to try in Vancouver, I would insert images from my trip like this one.

Yes, this is my own photo and I don’t recommend using other people’s photos to explain your personal experience.

Not only does including your own photos along with your personal experience at a destination will help your readers get a better understanding of what it’s like to be there, but you’ll come off as a much more credible source.

In fact, Google search engines want you to write based on personal experience; not from regurgitating information from other sources.

3. Share your best tips on traveling on a budget

People love to save money when they travel, so writing a post on how to save money while traveling is a great way to attract readers.

This could include tips on how to find cheap accommodation, how to find the best deals for flights and activities, etc.

You could also write a blog post about how to save money while traveling. Explain to readers how they don’t necessarily always have to dine out by booking an Airbnb with a kitchen and stopping by the best local groceries.

Reveal your secrets on how you travel for free, or how you use the best travel credit cards to rack up points and miles.

You could even review a certain app, website, or destination that is budget-friendly.

Your readers will appreciate you sharing your knowledge on how to travel on a budget and they will most likely become returning readers.

4. Create blog posts about a certain region

Did you know you could attract more readers when you really focus and hone in on specific regions?

This way, you can specialize in one particular area and create a list of must-visit spots within that region.

For example, you could be an expert at providing information about Seoul and only talk about places and things to do in Seoul. It’s exactly what I was looking for when I planned my Korea trip a few years ago.

I found a trustworthy blog where someone was speaking from their own experience and writing everything about traveling in Seoul and ONLY Seoul! As a result, I bookmarked her website and kept going back to it for more information. I also passed her blog along to my friends who were traveling to Seoul for the first time. So, take this advice from someone who is your ideal reader.

As a Seoul blogger, that may even include answering questions in your blog posts like:

• What is the weather like in Seoul?
• Things to do in Myeong-dong
• Is Gyeongbokgung Palace Worth Visiting?
• How can I rent a car in Korea?
• What is the cost of living in Seoul?

You can also include some hidden gems that you stumbled upon during your travels – they usually make for the best stories!

Again, include your own photos (not someone else’s or from Google searches). In fact, Google wants you to upload your own images, so don’t neglect this.

5. Share your experience with a particular hotel or resort

Reviews are always helpful when it comes to hotels and resorts.

If you’ve stayed at a particularly great hotel or resort, share your experiences in a blog post. This will give readers an idea of what to expect if they choose to stay there as well.

Include photos and videos of the hotel or resort, and make sure to cover everything from the decor to the amenities they offer.

Additionally, you could also include a review of food and services that were provided.

Your readers will be thankful for your honest opinion!

6. Give readers advice on the best places to eat in a certain city

I don’t know about you but whenever I plan a trip, I always search for the best restaurants in that area. I even do it in my home city so let alone when I go travel.

Write a blog post about the best restaurants, cafes, and even food trucks in a certain city. To go even deeper, you could also write a separate review post on that particular restaurant.

For instance, if you happen to be a New York City blogger, you could write a review post about the “Don Angie” restaurant (a popular place to eat) and give them your non-biased opinion about the food, decor, service, etc.

As mentioned, always include photos (they are essential) in addition to a little bit of background on each restaurant.

This will help readers make an informed decision when they are looking for a place to eat.

7. Provide detailed information about how to stay safe in a particular city

New travelers are foreign to the area and might not know what to do in order to remain safe.

Write a post about safety tips when traveling to a particular city since they all have their own nuances when it comes to safety.

For example, if you were writing an informational post about New York City, you can answer questions like:

• Is NYC safe?
• Is Manhattan safe? (Be sure to cover upper, lower, and midtown Manhattan in your blog post)
• The Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in NYC

You can bet that’s what I was reading too when I was a first-time visitor to NYC.

Honestly speaking, if I were to start a new blog over again, it’s the theme I would choose due to its simplicity.

I really wish I knew about the Astra theme when I first started my blog because it would have saved me a ton of time from navigating other random themes that seemed too technical and complicated. Not to mention, one of the first blog themes that I was using was slow speed too, which can negatively affect how people will find you on search engines like Google.

So, today, I will be using the free version Astra theme as an example in this guide to help you get your blog up and running as soon as possible.

The steps and concepts will be similar for most WordPress themes, but not exactly the same since all themes are made differently and with different settings/functions. Still, this should give you some guidance on what to look for when setting up any blog.

Again, I can’t stress this enough, but I want to keep harping that you should really give this theme a try (especially if you’re a total beginner who is not tech-savvy). It’s much easier using a theme like Astra because it’s barebone and will help you get your blog moving along nicely.

Okay, let’s get started!

How To Install and Setup Astra Blog Theme for Beginners

First of all, we’re going to help you install Astra onto WordPress before you set up and customize your blog.

DON’T HAVE A BLOG YET? If you haven’t started your blog yet, I recommend following my step-by-step Bluehost tutorial here on how you can get started.

I also have my post, Starting a Blog Checklist, to guide you through the steps you need to take to create your blog.

Step 1: Log into your WordPress admin.

You can do this by going to www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin.

For example, if your blog domain name is ilovepinkcats.com, then type www.ilovepinkcats.com/wp-admin into your web browser.

Next, enter your username (or e-mail address) associated with the account along with your password.

If you forgot your password, or don’t know it, just reset it and create a new one.

Step 2: Go to “Appearance” >> “Themes”

On the left side of your WP dashboard panel, go to “Appearance” >> “Themes”.

Step 3: Add a New Theme

You’ll see something like this where you can see a list of themes you’ve used.

If your account is totally brand new, you may only see the box, “Add New Theme”.

Click on that big box with a “+” sign – “Add New Theme”.

Step 4: Search for the Astra theme

In the search bar where it says “Search themes…”, type in “Astra” and hit enter.

Next, you’ll see the Astra theme, which looks like this:

Hover over the theme and click on the “Install” button.

You can also click on “preview” to see how the theme looks on your desktop and mobile.

Step 5: Customize your theme

Once you’ve installed the Astra theme, click on the “customize” button so you can start customizing your theme.

There are so many ways to stylize and tweak your theme – all you have to do is navigate around and play with it.

In this remaining guide, I’ll give you the basic setup plan with the Astra theme so you can get this out of the way and start focusing on what’s important – writing your blog posts without stressing about how your theme looks!

But before that, I want to mention some really important tips. Whatever I’m about to say, please nail this in your head, and just trust me based on my own experience. In fact, most experienced bloggers will very likely say the same too.

Some Tips For Setting Up Your Blog Theme:

Your blog theme doesn’t have to look pretty or “fancy Dancy” for now.

Repeat after me.

“My blog does not have to look perfect.”

If you’ve just started your blog as a beginner, I highly recommend getting this very basic theme setup without dwelling so much on aesthetics or appearance.

I hope you can just trust me on this!

Why?

1. Writing blog posts for your readers and traffic is a priority (NOT how pretty your blog looks)

For one, focusing on keyword research and publishing your content is a top priority if you want to get blog traffic as soon as possible, which I cover extensively from every corner, angle, and even spec in The Golden Compass To Pinterest Traffic.

I often see SO many beginners dwell and spend all that unnecessary time on their themes that they lose sight of why they even started their blogs.

They become hung up about every little detail that they don’t end up writing and publishing a good amount of content until 3 or 6 months later.

It’s not uncommon for me to see people publish even 1 year later. The crazy part is even at that time (after 6 months to 1 year, sometimes even 2 years), they STILL dwell over their themes while also wondering why their blog isn’t taking off as soon as they hoped.

As you can see, they’ve got their priorities set backward.

2. No one remembers how your website looks

Secondly, no one is visiting your blog (especially when it’s new), so it doesn’t matter how it looks at the moment. Even if you do get traffic, no one remembers when they first interact with your blog.

Plus, your blog appearance and how you want to build your brand can easily be changed or tweaked once you start getting more and more traffic. I can guarantee that you’re pleasing no one when you spend all that time on your theme.

I’ve always had readers ask me how I was able to earn a full-time income with my blog within 12 months.

Looking back, I realized that NOT dwelling on how my blog’s appearance was one factor that helped me focus my time, energy, investment, and effort on areas that generated a WAY higher return – that includes learning Pinterest for traffic, Tailwind, how to write blog posts, and understanding how blogs really make money behind the scenes.

How pretty your blog looks is not a top priority at the beginning.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am NOT saying that your theme should look ugly or be an eye sore. That is NOT acceptable, and you should put effort into your theme. It should look presentable and aesthetically pleasing, but it doesn’t have to be professional grade. You can always improve this on the go, or when you have time once you’ve prioritized publishing your content and learning how to get traffic to your blog.

If you really want it to look professional right off the bat, you can hire someone to do this for you, but I don’t recommend this until you have more experience with blogging and knowing what your readers want.

Astra Basic Setup Guide

Now that you’ve installed the Astra theme, here are the basic setups I recommend.

As a prerequisite, please have at least one blog post published before proceeding with this guide, so you can follow along.

Having at least one blog post, or even up to 3 articles ready on your website will make it easier for you to visualize your customization.

In the remaining tutorial, I am going to use one of my test websites to demonstrate this. This website is called The Modern Mocha, and I created this blog separately to help you set up your blog.

The Modern Mocha is not intended to get traffic or to monetize – it exists to show beginners like you how to set up your blogs with a fast and lightweight theme like Astra. By demonstrating The Modern Mocha as an example, it will help you move forward and reach your blogging goals much faster.

After all, who doesn’t want to make money with their blogs as fast as possible?

And yes, there are actually many blogs (a lot of them out there you aren’t aware of) that use the Astra theme (including the free version).

I know, I know…

It looks quite plain and barebone, but you’ll be surprised to hear that those blogs actually earn a full-time income. It’s how FinSavvy Panda started off too, but with a much slower and less responsive theme.

I admit I had a lousy theme with my first blog, but it still earned over six figures per year – that goes to show that looks aren’t everything when it comes to earning an income online; it’s more so your content and personality behind the blog. I applied the same concepts and steps to my anonymous lifestyle blog after realizing how many mistakes I made with my first blog.

So, as you can see, you are on a much better start compared to me when I was a beginner.

Again, you can always tweak your theme and fancy it up once you’ve set up a basic foundation and become a little more experience with blogging.

Now, let’s get back to where we left off from step 5 above.

I won’t go through every single setting or function since that can take up to 500 pages of documentation, so I will highlight the important ones to get your blog ready for launch.

Global (“Typography”):

Once you’re in “customization”, from step 5 above, your screen should look something like this.

This category contains one important aspect of your theme appearance, which is the “typography” (AKA font, text, and size).

Typography is broken down into two categories – “base font” and “heading font”.

The general rule of thumb is you’ll want your font to be big enough for your readers to read from their devices.

Here’s what I did with The Modern Mocha website. The link to this post is here and you can follow these settings, and/or tweak them to your own preference.

Base Font: You can choose your font and size in this setting. I recommend choosing anything between 18 to 20 PX, but it depends on what font face you pick.

• Family: Inherit
• Size: 20
• Weight: Inherit
• Text Transform: Default

Heading Font: Heading 1 is generally the title of your blog post whereas heading 2 is the subtitle.

Here is what heading 1 looks like at size 40 PX:

There are also headings 3 and 4, which I rarely use. I usually use up to heading 3, but anything beyond that is unnecessary. You can choose the sizes of each heading as you wish.

Global (“Container”) AKA Theme Layout:

This is just how you like your overall layout to look, either boxed or stretched.

For The Modern Mocha, I am using the “Boxed” option, which you can see my post is in a “boxed” place if you check out my homepage. This is the “default” setting and I personally like it better than the other choices.

You can also try the “full width / stretched” option, which would give this appearance on your blog roll:

Header Builder (includes the logo or blog name):

With Astra Theme, you can quickly and easily create your own custom blog header with the “Header Builder”.

This feature allows users to customize their blog’s branding, including logo placement, title font size and color, menu location, and more.

By taking advantage of the “Header Builder”, you can create a unique and eye-catching blog header that will help draw visitors to your blog. However, you don’t need to make this fancy when you first set up your website; you can always come back and make changes later on once you figure out how you want your logo to look.

For now, just type in your blog name along with your site tagline.

What is a site tagline?

A site tagline is a brief sentence or phrase (no more than 15 words) that helps your readers understand what your blog is about. When crafting your site tagline, make sure it’s concise, memorable, and relevant to your audience.

For example, for The Modern Mocha test site, I used the tagline, “Home organization and simple living made easy.”

This allows readers to know that the blog will focus on home organization and simple living tips, without needing to read further. By using an effective tagline, people can quickly decide if the blog is a good fit for them.

Always keep the intended audience in mind and craft your message accordingly.

Now, to input your blog name and tagline, go to Header Builder >> “Site Title & Logo” under Elements tab >> “General” tab.

NOTE: You’ll notice a button called, “Select Logo”. If you’re using a program like Canva to create a logo, you can simply use this button to upload your image or logo. I personally recommend keeping this simple for now because it will allow you to spend time to get started on your blog post, which is one of the most crucial parts of building your blog. You can always create a logo 3 months down the road. There is really no rush since nothing is more important than generating content for your readers.

Blog (“Blog / Archive”):

This allows you to switch the position of where you want to place your blog title and feature image, along with the number of comments, category, and author. You can see the image below to visualize this setting.

Sidebar:

The sidebar allows you to input your widgets for your blog page. You can choose to hide or show the sidebar, depending on what type of layout you are looking for.

You can select, “Right Sidebar” in the Default Layout option to allow the Astra theme to make room on the right-hand side for things like a search bar, bio or profile, your recent blog posts, links to your top articles, or even links to the products you want to direct your readers to.

Sidebar customization: To customize the sidebar, you can go into your WP dashboard and select “Appearance” then “Widgets”.

From here you can drag and drop widgets into the sidebar. This method gives you more flexibility and customization options.

This is how the sidebar of Blog Savvy Panda looks when I use the “Widgets” to customize it.  I used the image function for my logo and the text/paragraph function for a short “About Me” section.

How to insert a profile, image, or logo into your blog’s sidebar:

Let’s say, for instance, you want to insert a profile, image, or logo into your sidebar.

First, go to “Appearance” >> “Widgets” from your WP dashboard.

You’ll see your Main Sidebar or Right Sidebar.

Next, click on the “+” button, and then select the “Image” icon.

Selecting the “Image” icon will allow you to upload any image or logo you choose from your computer/desktop.

Make sure to hit the “Upload button” to do this.

After choosing your image or logo, you’ll see this button with three dots – click on that because we want to select “Edit as HTML” so that we can insert a basic HTML code to center your profile image or logo (or else the image would be aligned to the left as default).

Now, you can type in <center> at the beginning of the code, followed by </center> at the very end to close it off.

It would look something like this:

Once you’ve done that, your image or logo will be centered:

Note, you can move your blocks up and down by clicking the arrows to arrange the placement of your image, links, text, and other categories, etc. It typically makes sense to place your profile image or logo first, so go ahead and shift this all the way to the top.

So far up to these steps, these are the basics you need to cover, so you can focus on writing your blog posts. I also have an article on how to write your first blog post here.

Creating a Blog Menu with Astra Theme:

A blog menu is an essential item for any blog. It makes it easier for readers to browse through your content and provides an overall better experience.

Here is an example of how a blog menu looks on my website, FinSavvy Panda.

Once you’ve written at least 10 blog posts, I want you to create your blog menu. This is no rush at all, so take your time.

With Astra Theme, you can easily set up a blog menu from the “Menus” category. Here you can add items to your menu such as About Us, Contact Us, and other categories as you wish.

Today, I’m going to explain how to choose a profitable blog niche and some of the most common mistakes to avoid when deciding what to blog about.

Over the last several years of doing this and earning a full-time income as a six-figure blogger, I’ve been asked the same questions over and over again about the right steps to take when starting a blog and choosing a niche that is worthwhile.

This is the advice I wish I knew sooner before I started my blog. Had I not learned from my past mistakes and changed gears, my blog wouldn’t have reached my first $5,000 blogging income in a month (when I was still spinning my wheels) all the way to $20,000+ a month.

I am convinced that following the tips I lay out below is what helped me reach my goal of earning over six figures per year in blogging today, and I still continue to learn and apply any new knowledge to my blogs.

Despite choosing what most people consider a profitable niche, which is in personal finance, I still didn’t earn any real money at the beginning.

The problem wasn’t because I didn’t choose a profitable niche. Honestly, almost any niche can be profitable (even if you don’t think it could be profitable). Some things may just surprise you and I guess that comes with experience. So, the real problem is I wasn’t following or implementing the right strategies on my blog, which is what I address in this post. 

If you are new to my blog, I highly recommend searching for my past blog income reports that I used to publish on FinSavvy Panda. This will give you a better idea of how I earned a living and the type of income that is possible in some profitable niches.

I want to warn you that no matter how much information you gather or learn from other successful bloggers, you may still end up regretting the niche you’ve chosen – and that’s okay because the only way you learn is through your personal experience and mistakes, which will always be different for everyone.

However, I still want to share with you my hard-learned lessons and help you choose the perfect niche so you can enjoy blogging while avoiding as many mistakes as possible.

I’ll also speak from my personal experience of making an endless amount of mistakes and what I would’ve done differently to avoid choosing an unprofitable or bad niche. You cannot isolate these points because they all play a big role in your overall decision-making process.

How To Choose a Profitable Blog Niche

Here are my tips on how to choose a profitable niche for your blog. These tips are all based on my personal experience and they are the advice I wish I knew sooner before starting my blog.

1. Choose a topic you’re passionate about (as long as it benefits your readers)

This point may sound stupid, cheesy, and often regurgitated like it has no meaning, but I promise you will literally “get it” and even “feel it” once you start doing it.

In fact, I got brainwashed by other bloggers who told me that I should NOT be following my inner passions (because they tell you that it simply doesn’t exist and that you’ll end up begging for food on the streets if you try to pursue your interests).

Listening to their words and advice, “go for a profitable niche; NOT your passions”, during my blogging journey affected my mental health and actually did WAY MORE harm than good.

I will leave this to another blog post and elaborate on this point because I have SO much to say about it.

But for now, I wholeheartedly recommend choosing a niche that you are strongly passionate about, or at least something that really motivates you, while following all the other advice and tips I list in this article.

From my own personal experience, it’s MUCH easier to stay motivated when you are writing about something you are passionate about. That also includes a topic that you are passionate about learning and becoming an expert in.

Choosing a topic that aligns with your passions, interest, and values will also allow you to speak from your knowledge and personal experience. It helps keep your blog content fresh and interesting.

If you’re not interested in the topic, chances are your readers won’t be either. Don’t underestimate your readers. They can tell when you are writing from the heart and when it’s just a generic topic that’s regurgitated from the Internet.

And no, I’m not telling you to start freely writing about your passions (e.g. walking your puppy to the park or what video games you play every day) because these topics will most likely not generate passive income if you’re writing about yourself and your life without providing helpful information to your ideal readers.

Instead, look for a niche where the audience is interested in learning a particular topic. Using the same examples I mentioned, you could start a blog about “puppies” or “video games”. The key is to communicate that information in a way that benefits your readers.

So, if your blog is about dogs or puppies, you may want to target dog owners and provide them with tips on how to properly care for their pets or advice on finding the right dog breed. You can absolutely write about yourself and let readers know that you have a passion for dogs, but along the way, you need to provide a solution for your reader.

Similarly, if you’re writing about video games, you could write reviews or offer tips on how to play certain games better. Again, you can write in a first-person tone and let readers know that you’re a hardcore gamer, but it’s more important to focus on what your readers will gain from your blog.

They want to know your strategies and the steps they need to take to become just as good as you.

Key Takeaway #1: You can write about your passions, but the information you present needs to be something readers will find useful and interesting. At the end of the day, readers only care about themselves and how they will benefit from the knowledge and information you share with them. So, don’t get too caught up writing about yourself if it doesn’t help the reader in any way.

2. Make sure there’s enough demand for it

It’s one thing to be passionate about a certain topic, but it’s another to make sure there are enough people interested in that same subject.

Before choosing your niche, do some research and see if there’s enough demand for it.

You can start by looking at forums (e.g. Reddit or Quora) and online communities related to your chosen niche to see what questions people like to ask.

As a real user and consumer, I often hop onto Reddit or Quora to see what people are talking about in topics like skin care, blogging, finance, and product reviews.

In skin care forums, people are asking questions like “what foods are best for your skin?”

Some questions may even be more specific like “is eating a tbsp of tomato paste every day good for your skin?”

And not surprisingly, a lot of people who are into skin care would often ask “should I moisturize or put on retinol first?” along with, “Can I use retinol in the morning?”

Similarly, in a personal finance forum, people may ask questions like “what are some hacks to save money on groceries without using coupons?” and many others may ask for specific saving hacks on how to get better quotes on their car insurance.

They may even ask what wealth building methods helped you save your first $100K or even first $1 million.

Those questions can be answered and summarized in many different blog posts to help your readers. It’s also very common to see people look for product reviews on forums and that’s where a review post comes in handy.

In addition to gathering information from forums, you can also do a quick search on Google to see how many other blogs are discussing those topics. This also ties into what I discuss in point #6 below about finding the right keywords to attract the right target audience.

It’s important to note that despite the competition or the thousands of blogs already discussing that topic, you can still make your blog unique and stand out from the crowd as long as you speak from first-hand experience.

Everyone has different ways to do different things, and trust me when I say there are many people who want to know what you do to solve your daily life problems. As long as you are making progress and have results to show.

3. Be knowledgeable (enough) in your area of expertise

When it comes to blogging, you need to be knowledgeable enough about your chosen topic so that readers can trust and rely on your content.

Notice I said, “knowledgable enough” because you don’t need to be an expert or have a Ph.D in the subject matter. Unless you are writing a blog post about medical treatments for a disease or anything that is health-related, then you’ll need to be certified. That is a different story.

But other than that, you just need to be able to provide your readers with useful or interesting information that they can use.

By the way, I don’t want to discourage you from starting a blog if you’re not an expert or professional in a certain field.

Instead, be honest and upfront with your readers so that they will understand where you’re coming from. It’s okay to have a burning desire to learn about a particular topic and teach it along the way but make sure you know enough about the subject before diving in head first.

The fact that you have a burning passion and desire to learn about something can be a great indication that you’ll make an excellent blog writer. Trust me, I’ve met many professionals who have certifications with fancy titles but lack the knowledge and insight that passionate people have. They may not have the same motivation to continue learning, researching, or keeping up to date with the subject as you do.

Also, remember this.

You may not know everything about parenting when starting a mom or parenting blog, but you know more than enough to teach beginners who know absolutely nothing.

Want to start a type of finance blog, but you don’t have over a million dollars in net worth?

Don’t sweat it.

It could be that you were in a mountain of consumer debt, but you managed to pay it off plus saved your first $10,000, $20,000, or $50,000, and now working your way towards your million-dollar net worth. Go, ahead and blog about your debt journey and start sharing your advice with your readers – you are qualified!

Yes, you are!

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know everything. No one does. You can always improve by doing research to learn more and keeping your readers up-to-date on the latest trends and developments.

I’ve seen a lot, and I mean A LOT, of bloggers who started their blogs without any real knowledge of the subject they were writing about. But they knew more than the average layperson, so they decided to take a chance and roll with it. By doing that, they gained additional knowledge, built their reputation as an expert in the industry, and eventually became successful.

And to be honest with you, I didn’t know anything when I first started my blog. I only knew the basics of personal finance (based on my own practices) and shared with my readers what I personally did to save and invest over the years to build wealth. It was purely anecdotal, but I wrote from the heart and my readers appreciated it.

Key Takeaway #3: Don’t be discouraged if you’re not an expert yet. Learn more about your chosen topic and use the knowledge to teach your readers something new and relevant. Don’t forget to include your own experience. Personal anecdotes is what makes you the expert and sets you apart from your competition.

4. Don’t be afraid of “too much competition” or “oversaturation”

I often have readers telling me that they can easily find the same information from other sites, and yes, that’s definitely true. But you can differentiate yourself by providing them with your own insights and experience with the topic.

Plus, if there seems to be a lot of competition, it’s most likely because the topic is in demand. That high demand means there are profits to be made.

Of course, you still need to put in a lot of hard work and dedication if you want to make money from it.

For example, you may want to start a food blog but you have so many doubts because of how successful and popular food blogs already are.

However, the fact that you have your own experiences with different recipes (perhaps with a unique spin by tweaking the ingredients) and cooking techniques can help make your blog unique.

You could think about becoming that blogger who is laser-focused on a sub-niche of cooking that interests you, like South Asian vegetarian dishes or healthy Chinese cuisines. Niching down a notch may be one way to stand out from the competition of food blogs that include a variety of cuisines.

Another example is that you have a dream of becoming a beauty blogger but you see millions of beauty bloggers out there. You can still make your mark by being honest about your own experiences with different products and the challenges you faced in making them work for you.

A lot of blogs are lacking authenticity due to capitalization and sponsored posts, so being honest with your readers can easily make you stand out.

No matter what you blog about, sticking to being truthful and authentic will help you stand out from the crowd and make your blog successful.

Key Takeaway #4: Don’t be afraid of overly competitive niches or topics. If there are many people talking about it, chances are the topic has potential and can be profitable if you put in the time and effort.

5. Niche down

Before I dive into this point, I want to mention this, so you don’t stress so much about “niching down” because you don’t necessarily have to.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I’m not saying that broader nichces don’t work. They actually work and many are very profitable. I have a lifestyle blog that is very broad and my personal finance blog isn’t very niched down, but after several years of blogging, I now get why it’s a good idea to niche down if you can. Either way, you can’t go wrong. The important part is sticking to whatever works for you and focusing on your ideal readers. Don’t let this stop you from starting your blog even if you find it hard to niche down. Just go with the flow and things will work out. Trust me.

As I already mentioned briefly, you should look for a specific niche within your chosen topic that you can focus on. This will help make you stand out from the other bloggers in your niche and will also make it easier for readers to find your blog when they’re searching.

Let’s use the beauty niche as an example.

You may want to choose a sub-category in the beauty space you’re passionate about (e.g. makeup, skincare, hair, or nails). By being laser-focused, you’ll attract readers who are looking for someone who specializes in that area, and your readers will come to you for advice because of your experience with the sub-category.

I personally follow and listen to a select few beauty bloggers who specialize in one area and write specifically about the skin or hair. I’m not going to go stick around for too long on a beauty blog that contains broader categories like makeup, skin, hair, nails, or even fashion – that is usually for the general public who just wants high-level information.

If I’m looking for real (NOT superficial) information about skincare, I want someone who’s an expert in that field, not a blogger who covers different beauty topics across multiple fields.

You may think niching down means narrowing your audience. But the truth is, it can actually help you attract more readers and create better engagement because people will come to your blog knowing what to expect.

Since I’m giving an example of topics in the beauty niche, I thought I’d mention a beauty blogger I stumbled upon who literally writes everything about eyelashes.

From the different types of eyelash serums including their pros and cons to teaching you how to do your own eyelash extensions, she covers every single topic she possibly could about eyelashes!

You won’t find a single post about makeup (unless it’s eyelash-related like mascara), skin, hair, or nails on her blog.

Another surprising result is she has over 200 blog posts about eyelashes – just when you thought there was nothing to write about such a narrow topic… hairs that grow at the edge of your eyelids?

Yep, that’s right!

I’ve analyzed her website and I can see that she’s monetizing it quite well with a great amount of traffic! And no, I won’t release her name because that wouldn’t be nice of me to give out her information just like that.

More examples of how to niche down:

Knowing how to choose a profitable niche and taking the next steps to niche down are important things to consider when you start your blog.

Here are other examples in other niches to help you narrow down your focus.

There are SO many more niches and sub-niches out there, so what I list here are just examples for illustration purposes. Another important point to keep in mind is to know who your target audience is such as their age, interest, gender, ethnicity, and culture:

• Personal finance (investing, saving money, making money, getting out of debt, etc.)
• Investing (single stocks, cryptocurrency, funds, real estate, etc.)
• Business (e-commerce, dropshipping, Etsy, Amazon FBA, blogging, online shop, social media, etc.)
• Crafts (crocheting, DIY, recycling, restoring furniture, kids crafts, adult crafts,  etc.)
• Home Decor (Refurbishing furniture, IKEA, woodworking, furniture hacks, etc.)
• Food (vegetarian, vegan, chicken, beef, healthy, keto, gluten-free, baking, desserts, Mexican, Jamaican, Asian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, etc.)
• Beauty (makeup, skin, nails, hair, eyelashes, clean beauty, anti-aging, celebrity diets and their lifestyle, etc.)
• Travel (specific city or country, locally, food, activities, etc.)
• Self-development (time management and productivity, positivity, mindset, meditation, etc.)
• Fitness (resistance training, yoga, pilates, cardio, running, sports, etc.)

Key Takeway #5: Niche down your chosen topic for better engagement and readership. This will help differentiate you from the competition, and you may even have a chance to monetize your blog more successfully than a broader blog.

However, even if you decide to stick with a broad category like general beauty, finance, or travel, that is fine too. My advice is to write about 10 blog posts that are super-niched before moving onto the next sub-category. Example for personal finance: write 10 blog posts about saving money before you write another 10 about debt or making money. Being broad works very well too.

6. Identify profitable keywords

Once you’ve chosen a topic that is both interesting and has enough potential for monetization, it’s time to research keywords. Of course, don’t forget to choose a topic that you’re truly passionate about, or at least very interested in, so you’ll have the motivation and drive to stick through.

After all, this is the honest truth of how long it really takes to make money blogging – so you really need to have the mindset of long-term gains if you want to make your blog turn into a full-time revenue stream.

When writing your blog post, always remember that your readers come first, but you should also look for keywords that will help increase traffic to your website. This is important since more visitors mean a higher potential for conversions.

You don’t want to just select any topic without looking into the potential traffic that comes with it. By identifying profitable keywords, you can see what topics have the highest search volume and are being searched by people who are interested in consuming the information or buying the product.

I recommend using tools like Google Trends, Ubersuggest, Ahrefs, and Keyword Tool to identify keywords that get the most searches. For example, if you’re in the beauty niche, look for keywords related to topics like skincare, makeup tutorials, and product reviews. A few examples specifically for the skin care niche include:

• Cindy Crawford skin care (yes, people love to search for celebrity skincare routine)
• Jennifer Aniston skin care (readers want to know the secrets to her skincare that has absolutely nothing to do with Aveeno products)
• night time skin care routine (readers want to know the perfect day and/or nighttime skin care routines)
• mad hippie vitamin c serum review (certain product reviews are highly searched because readers want to learn more about a particular product before buying it)
• innisfree sunscreen review (sunscreen is one of the most crucial anti-aging products, so people search for reviews about different types of sunscreen)

Another niche I’d like to give you an example of is a mom blog. Here are some keyword ideas for you mommy bloggers out there:

• DIY baby shower gifts (expecting moms want to know what they can make for their baby showers)
• best baby girl names (would-be parents research for names even before the baby is born)
• best baby boy names
• how to get your child to sleep through the night
• can pregnant women eat sushi (yes, many new expecting moms search for this type of stuff!)
• best bottles for breastfed babies

I’m having fun searching for keywords, so I’ll give you another example in the travel niche:

• best places to visit in Europe (these “best places to visit in X” are evergreen content that will never die unless another unforeseen health crisis hits us again… geez, thanks, Covid!)
• how to plan a trip in NYC on a budget (who doesn’t search for NYC?)
• the best travel snacks for kids (not only is this great for travel blogs, but it can work in a parenting or mommy blog too!)
• “what to pack for Disney World” or “Disney World packing list”
• what is France famous for (yes, this type of content is highly searched by people who want to know more about a particular place)
• fun facts about Canada (If you’re a Canadian traveler, you may want to write a post about this)

Key Takeaway #6: Identify profitable keywords that are related to your topic to create content that is more likely to be seen by potential buyers. This will help you get organic traffic and increase your chances of monetizing your blog.

7. Write the right content or articles based on your keyword research 

Once you have your list of profitable keywords, you can then use it to create content.

You may have chosen a profitable niche to blog about, but what good is it if you can’t get your articles in front of as many eyeballs as possible?

In other words, you’ll be able to optimize your blog posts for your selected keywords (mentioned in my previous point) and get more organic traffic to your blog.

Not only can you do keyword research and search for what to write about for Google searches, but you can do this simultaneously with Pinterest too!

Like Google, Pinterest is a search engine, so you can look for keywords on Pinterest related to your niche that people are searching for. This is especially helpful if you have a Pinterest business account setup (it’s absolutely free), as you can use keywords to reach potential customers and grow your blog.

I personally use Pinterest to drive traffic to my blog, so I highly suggest investing in some Pinterest optimization strategies. This includes optimizing your pins with keywords, creating content with the right topics and images, and breaking down the best times to pin your content.

However, some of the most successful and profitable niches include health and wellness, travel and lifestyle, business, finance and investing, fashion and beauty, parent blogs, crafting, DIY projects, and food. Oh yes, food is a big one, and for good reason!

Other niches you may want to consider include self-improvement, video games, career advice, and personal development.

How you monetize it is also an important factor. You can make money from your blog through affiliate marketing, advertising, sponsored posts, and other services.

3. What niche should I choose for blogging?

Choosing a niche for blogging is ultimately up to you.

But before you make your decision, I suggest that you pick something you are passionate about and have a genuine interest in (I elaborated more about this point in the article above in point #1). This will help you stay motivated and inspired to create content that readers will find interesting, educational, and valuable.

In addition, you will want to make sure the niche is targeted towards a specific group or audience (though it does help to niche down, which I talked more about above in point #5) and that there is enough demand for it. This can be done by researching the market, understanding who your target audience is (e.g. female, male, age, interests, etc.), and analyzing how much competition there is in that particular niche.

Finally, you should also consider the potential value of your content. Will readers find it useful? Is it helpful in any way? You want to ensure that you are providing readers with content that has substance, value, and relevance.

4. How do I know if my niche is profitable?

As mentioned, almost any blog niche could be profitable – it all depends on your monetization strategy and whether you know how to make money blogging in your niche.

So, the best way to tell if your niche is profitable or not is by researching the market and seeing what other successful bloggers are doing in that specific niche. You can also analyze the competition to see what type of content is being created and what keywords are being used. I talk more about keywords in one of the sections above in point #6.

Once you have a better understanding of what type of content readers are already looking for, you can then focus on creating content that stands out from the rest. You want your content to be unique and provide readers with something they can’t find anywhere else. By unique, I don’t mean reinventing the wheel, but instead putting your own spin on existing topics.

You should also be aware of the potential for monetizing your blog in that particular niche. Take a look at what other bloggers in your niche are doing to monetize their blogs and see if you can do something similar. If not, then consider switching niches.

For many years, I get asked this one same question over and over again from my international readers…

• Can I start a blog in India?
• Can I start a blog in Asia like the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc?
• Can I start a blog in South Africa?
• Can I start my blog in Nigeria?
• Can I start a blog in Central America like Mexico, Panama, Belize, Costa Rica, etc?

There are many other different places that I didn’t include in this list, but my answer is almost always the same.

It made me wonder why didn’t I just create an article for my international readers about blogging in a different continent or country outside of the US or Canada. It almost feels like I’m a robot repeating myself endlessly when I communicate privately one on one with my readers LOL!

So, I decided to just quickly answer this question in this blog post.

Can I Start a Blog in India, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Central America, South Africa, West Africa, Nigeria, etc.?

The short answer is YES, you can start a blog in whatever “insert your country here.”

I know many of you may think that you can only start a profitable blog in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and several countries in Europe, but this is far from the truth.

In addition to North America, UK, Australia and Europe, you can start a blog from almost anywhere.

I see many bloggers from over the world and they are able to monetize their blogs in various ways. It all depends on what you decide to blog about, your blog post ideas, your target audience, along with your blog monetization strategy.

I always see, and I actually have readers from all over the world who started their blogs in all different places like Asia, South Africa, Europe, Central America, Australia, etc. including some smaller and lesser-known areas I’ve never heard of.

When I started my blog and learned more about this online world, I was fascinated with this idea, and it made me realize the big possibilities and potential of blogging from many different countries across the world. I thought it was pretty cool how I was learning and connecting with people from different backgrounds and cultural groups that aren’t generally promoted in North American media. This made me realize what I was missing out on because I’ve been living in my own personal bubble.

I even remember that I had a reader from Syria who emailed me and told me he started his blog using my Bluehost blogging tutorial here.

I don’t know what he’ll be blogging about exactly (but I think it was related to crypto currency which is super popular and highly searched as the time of writing this) and again, like I said earlier, it really depends on what niche you choose along with the audience you tailor to.

Can you make money blogging in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, countries in South Africa, West Africa, Nigeria, etc.?

And the short and quick answer is “yes you can.”

This is usually my long answer to my readers with greater details:

I don’t know if there are any advertising companies in your specific country that will work with you. I personally work with advertisers in the US and they partner up with many people across the world as long as majority of the traffic and readers of your blog live in North America.

This is what I do know and it works for those of you who don’t live in North America. I see people living in different countries all over the world earning a great income by writing content that targets Americans.

I am more familiar with the North American lifestyle since this is where I reside. Plus, it’s no secret that America is a spending nation (that’s how money can be made when people are willing to spend or invest), so advertisers you partner with are willing to pay higher for your display ads when your readers are from countries like the US or Canada.

In case you don’t know what “display ads” are, here is what they look like on my FinSavvy Panda Blog along with my other blog:

This is one way to earn money with your blog and it’s one of the most passive methods compared to other blog monetization strategies. When you’re a brand new blogger, I highly recommend starting out with display ads by learning how to drive traffic back to your blog.

So, let’s say for example if you live in India, Asia, or an African country, you can start a blog and write your content in English and speak to a North American audience. I live in Canada, but the majority of my audience resides in the US, Europe, and Australia.

When you do this, your chances of success will likely be higher especially if you are looking to monetize your blog by using display advertising and affiliate marketing.

I actually see many people in different countries targeting a specific audience who are willing to spend or resides in a country like the US.

I only mention this because I don’t want to mislead you into thinking that you can just start a blog and target a different country where advertisers may not be willing to pay a decent amount of money for the ads you display on your website.

However, I don’t want to say that your idea won’t work if you decide to target a specific audience in your country that is outside of the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Europe, etc.

If you have done your research and you are very confident that you have some sort of product or service that you can recommend to that specific audience in your country, then by all means do it! You won’t know until you really test and try it yourself.

How To Start a Blog in Your Country

I hope this gives you the confidence to start your blog in the country you live in. Again, just because you don’t live in North America, it doesn’t mean you can’t start your blog and make money.

We live in the day and age where people connect from all over the globe, so it’s not difficult at all to work with other bloggers, content creators, and companies outside of your country. Again, I live in Canada but most of the people I work and communicate with on my blog are those I haven’t even met in real life yet! That’s the part that still surprises me!

By the way, when you arrange and setup your payments, you will obviously have to use your real name if you want to get paid. There’s no such thing as getting paid anonymously – I just wanted to make that clear.

Popular ways to make money blogging anonymously include:

• Display ads on your website
• Affiliate marketing
• Sponsored posts
• Selling your own products (yes, you can still do this with an anonymous blog)

Whether you choose to blog anonymously or not, you always have the choice to connect and engage with your audience. But this is not necessary especially if your readers are directly searching for a solution to their problems on search engines like Google, and even Pinterest too when users are looking for beautiful inspiration like a DIY project or recipe. For me, I personally find that connecting and engaging with your readers can be fun and meaningful compared to just directly answering a question.

Everyone is different so we all have different approaches to what matches our style of blogging when it comes to creating content for people. The most important part is to just get started with your blog and learn a ton of new things along the way. You will learn to adapt to a style that you are happy with, whether you choose to be an anonymous blogger or not.

My Anonymous Blogs as Examples

Here is an example of how my first blog progressed from anonymous to revealing my name. Followed by an example of my lifestyle blog that remains anonymous today.

After going through these two blog examples, I will talk about the mistake I made as an anonymous blogger, why and how I decided to reveal myself on my first blog, along with a list of the pros and cons of being an anonymous blogger. And then finally, how you can start and setup your blog whether or not you decide to remain anonymous.

Finsavvy Panda was an Anonymous Personal Finance blog:

My first website, Finsavvy Panda, was once an anonymous blog due to me being introverted, shy, and not knowing what to expect on the online space. I was a total newbie and naive person, so I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I started a blog.

Not only that, but the very being of Finsavvy Panda is actually very different to how it is today.

Anonymous Finance Blog with Net Worth Reports:

When I first started that blog, I didn’t have my blog income reports yet. I was initially publishing my “net worth” reports as an anonymous blogger to keep track of my savings, investment accounts, rental properties, loans, my spending, etc. I was always very passionate about finding ways to build wealth so it was a blog where I was explaining how I was saving, investing, spending, and earning extra money to increase my savings and net worth.

As you may know, your personal net worth is a private topic (at least for most people) and it can come off as quite sensitive. I was getting traffic to those pages, some were dead in the grave, and a few of them were considered my top traffic posts (I had no control over that thanks to Pinterest ), but I slowly unpublished and deleted many posts one by one, including my articles about my investments, as time went on.

There were a lot of times where I had no idea what the heck I was doing when it came to writing articles. One thing for sure is I didn’t want people to know my “net worth” or my investment details with my name next to it since I decided to reveal who I was on the blog. People who followed me from the very beginning will probably know more about me. It’s something I can’t undo unfortunately. But to be honest, everyone’s busy with their lives, so no one cares and it doesn’t really matter at this point.

Shift from Anonymous to Non-Anonymous Blogging:

As a result, today I keep it more general and talk about “how I saved my first six-figures” with a budget binder solution instead of publishing net worth reports. After unpublishing over 30 posts (yeah, I spent a lot of time writing those), I decided to publish a more general post about “how to become a millionaire in your 20s and 30s” including an article on “how to build wealth.” I also included a mix of articles that were about saving, budgeting, and earning extra income.

Even being more general like that still kind of makes me feel uncomfortable – along with those blog income reports which started off as earning “extra money” and is less sensitive compared to net worth reports – but I slowly learned how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Despite the engagement and e-mails I was getting from my readers, talking about my own personal assets, mostly my investments, made me feel super uncomfortable (way more uncomfortable than the extra money from blog income reports) especially when you are debating whether or not to reveal yourself on your blog! To be honest, I didn’t even see what was coming when I first published my blog income reports!

However, I see many personal finance bloggers log their net worth reports down to the details, so it really depends on you, what you want to blog about, and how you approach it. Some things that make one person feel comfortable may not be the case for you. As long as you can sleep at night, you can do whatever makes you happy.

The thing with blogging, and anything in life, is you just never know where your blog will take you. You just sort of go with the flow and perhaps one day you wake up and decide to do something different. You’ll realize that things will never go according to what you anticipate. I never really imagined myself becoming a full-time “blogger” or revealing my name on Finsavvy Panda. I also never imagined myself starting a lifestyle blog, but it looks like I did! I really don’t know what I’ll be doing next!

My lifestyle website is an example of an anonymous blog today:

If you’ve been following me recently, you’ll know that I’ve mentioned many times about my second blog in the “lifestyle niche”, which covers many topics under the sun.

From foods and recipes to beauty, crafts, motivational quotes, and many other topics, I have the freedom to blog about whatever I want without feeling restricted to only topics related to money and personal finance.

I also get asked many questions about lifestyle blogs, so I will probably create another separate post about it soon when I find time.

Anyways, there are many reasons why I wanted my second blog about lifestyle to remain anonymous.

Blogging Anonymously Gives You Peace and Freedom

For one, not only does it give me the freedom to blog about any topic that I find interesting (and it allows me to learn more about different blogging niches), but it also gives me peace and I can do and write whatever I want without feeling any pressure from anyone.

I also enjoy SO many other things outside of the personal finance world, so I thought starting a blog where I could blog about any topic I find interesting would work for me. Plus, I get to learn and gain more knowledge in the blogging world along with other topics in life, which allows me to speak from my personal experience.

Blogging Anonymously is Fun and Enjoyable When You Need A Break From People

This is more so if you’re a shy introvert like me who needs a break from time to time.

Just like you, I actually enjoy and appreciate other things in life such as crafting things (I was going to start a DIY crafting blog instead of a personal finance one), beauty, healthy food and recipes, exercising to stay healthy, travelling, experiencing and tasting new foods, self-development, and anything random that is related to being crafty or artistic, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy talking about money topics along with how I earn an income with my blogs, and I love teaching my readers about it, but I have to admit it can feel restricted when you are boxed into one space – for me, that was personal finance and money matters.

I’m not all about money and I do need a lot of breaks. I just want to save, build, and earn enough so I could have the financial freedom to enjoy life without having to go deal with a 9-5 job.

Blogging Anonymously with a Lifestyle Blog Feels Like an Escape or Getaway

I am naturally a very self-conscious person, so I wanted to remain anonymous with my second blog, and I don’t want to make the mistake of revealing too much about myself like how I did with my first blog.

Not just that, but now that people know who I am on Finsavvy Panda, I didn’t want my second blog to be tied along with it. I’ve already published blog income reports on Finsavvy Panda (I started logging them when I was an anonymous full-time blogger earning $10,000+ per month), and I don’t want people visiting my other blog knowing it’s me.

That second blog is supposed to be my escape where I can relax and do whatever I want without feeling any pressure. It’s flexible and I can do whatever the heck I want. It also allows me to learn and do testing with peace and quiet.

Blogging anonymously without a name or face to your blog allows you to enjoy and do testing in your own time without an audience or people following you.

My Mistake With My First Anonymous Blog

When I started my personal finance blog, Finsavvy Panda, I felt that I was already revealing too much about my life in the aspect of money matters. It somehow went towards that direction without me realizing it. I didn’t care at that time because I thought I was going to remain anonymous forever and no one would ever know – not even my family or friends!

As a new blogger at that time, I was very naïve and didn’t know any better. Plus, it was hard for me to make my points without being vulnerable or telling my real life stories and experience.

This is especially true for those of you who are highly emotional and sensitive like me. Despite being emotional, sensitive, and empathetic, I actually don’t like showing my emotions or sharing my personal life to people IRL. I get really scared and hide away.

People from work, and even my friends, have used words like “enigmatic” or “mysterious” to describe me, but I only appeared that way because I was always so self-conscious about myself. I know, it’s kind of ironic how I’m even typing this out.

By being an anonymous blogger, I thought I could display my true feelings and emotions as long as no one knew who I was. But over time, it was hard to hide my identity as more and more readers reached out to me. This is even more true when I recently shifted my blogging mindset from a “fun and playful hobby that makes money” to a blogging business. I give more details about my mistakes in my blogging lessons learned here.

Why did I decide to reveal myself on my first blog?

Within my first year of blogging, I was getting a lot of emails and questions from my readers about how I was able to increase my savings, earnings, pay off my loans and save money within an X period of time. I was even getting questions about how they can start investing. As time progressed, I was getting a lot of questions about how I was earning money with a blog.

This is how my blog looked when I was still blogging anonymously:

As more readers were reaching out to me with real legitimate questions, I felt strange for hiding myself in my shell as an anonymous blogger.

I was like a walking contradiction. A big part of me wanted to reveal myself to people who were connecting with me because in my view, it’s more genuine, authentic, and real.

But at the same time, I was afraid to reveal myself due to my low self-esteem issues. I was not confident in myself because I always felt like I’m responsible for every person’s results and outcome, but I eventually learned that’s not how I should feel. That’s probably why I spent a lot of my life with something called imposter syndrome, which I still stress about, but I am learning to get over it.

Deep inside of me, I really wanted my readers to get to know me better and vice versa so I could help them, but my lack of confidence held me back. I was confused and didn’t know what to do during that time.

Those were real people who email me and ask for help/tips like how any friend would. I really wanted to treat them like how I would with my friends, and that’s why I tried my best to stop being so shy and decided to open up a little more.

This didn’t happen over night. It took time and a lot of courage from my end. I’m still very shy by nature. But eventually, I slowly revealed myself, and some parts of my life related to my money matters since that’s what I blog about, as my readers made me feel a little more comfortable in my skin.

As you can see, overtime as I got a little more comfortable, I decided to reveal myself several years later. So, today I don’t really blog anonymously on that blog anymore.

I have to admit that I’m still uncomfortable, but I am learning to let go by trying not to be so shy and sensitive. The truth is no one cares, so you do you, and just be happy with whatever you choose to do. By acknowledging that, it’s how you grow and develop as a person too.

Pros and Cons of Being an Anonymous Blogger

Now that you know a little a bit about me, how I am, along with my two blogs, here are the pros and cons of being an anonymous blogger.

By the way, these points are very general. You should NOT read these points as black and white answers.

For example, just because you’re an anonymous blogger, it does not necessarily mean you won’t be able to connect, engage and build a relationship with your readers. You can, but it’s not the same compared to revealing your name and face. Think of it as a scale, so it can be a mix of both. It depends on a lot of factors and the things you decide to do with your blog.

Anyways, here are the general pros and cons of being an anonymous blogger.

Anonymous Blogger Pros

• No pressure from anyone
• Write about topics that may be sensitive
• Have fun with your blog and do whatever you want
• Be as emotional as you want and let your feelings/thoughts out about a particular topic or subject without being judged
• You can still earn a healthy and full-time income (it’s dependent on your strategy and what you do behind the scenes)
• Great for testing and learning new things in the niche you blog about without anyone following you

Anonymous Blogger Cons

• Your website may appear very mysterious, and sometimes even come off as a fake person hiding behind a computer screen
• You may be alienating your readers who land on your page (it can become hard, though not impossible, to trust a site with no name and no face)
• Could be more challenging to build relationships with peers in your niche
• Due to all of the above, this may make it a little more challenging to get mentions, or backlinks, to your website when you do outreach. Not impossible, but can be more challenging especially when getting mentions on websites isn’t an easy task to begin with.

The great thing is you can always start your blog anonymously, and choose to reveal yourself slowly as you become a little more comfortable. It’s all up to you and what you want to do with it and how you want to monetize it.

How Do I Set Up an Anonymous Blog?

You can go to this easy step-by-step tutorial on how to start your blog and create your Bluehost account.

You can also take a minute to create a new email account to register your blog and hosting. For example, if you decide to come up with a blog name like “hungryforgoodfood.com”, then you can create a gmail account: hungryforgoodfood@gmail.com, so you can use this to register your new blog.

Also, remember to purchase the “domain privacy protection” if you want to set up an anonymous blog. It only costs an extra $1 per month, and it will hide any personal information along with ensuring you won’t appear in WHOis.com and other web directories online.

You will see this “domain privacy protection” option when you sign up for your blog. It’s a box that you can check off when it comes to adding extra features.

Even if you don’t decide to blog anonymously, I highly recommend adding this extra feature! You really should.

And if you already signed up for a blog but you don’t have the “domain privacy protection” feature added, don’t worry. You can always add it now or later, so it’s not too late.

Alright, let’s jump right into it!

Step 1: Determine why you want to start a blog

It could be that you want to start a hobby blog for fun with no intention of monetizing, or perhaps you have the intention to turn your hobby blog into something that is profitable in the long run. Assuming you’re aware that making money with a blog is possible, you also need to take a step by and ask yourself the “deeper” question of WHY you want to start your blog, and by doing so, how will starting a blog change your life?

I know you’ve read stories about how bloggers are earning over six figures every year with their blogs.

Fascinated by the amount of money they earn, you are inspired to start one yourself too.

However, without determining or understanding why you really want to start a blog (other than the fact that it could help you earn a full-time income), you will most likely set yourself up for failure.

Step 2: Determine your interests and what you want to blog about

Once you’ve determined your why and what motivates you, it’s time to think about what you want to blog about.

There are so many things you are passionate about and you want to write about. However, thinking about all the possibilities of what you can write about becomes overwhelming, so I recommend you go through this blog post that will guide you on what to write about by determining your passions that will help your readers.

Step 3: Choose a blog name

Now that you know your passions and what you want to write about, it’s time to choose a blog name that will reflect you, your brand, and your personality. This article here will show you exactly how to come up with a perfect blog name (AKA domain name).

Step 4: Start Your Blog with a Self-Hosted Plan

After completing steps 1 through 3, it’s time to start your blog with Bluehost using this step-by-step tutorial here.

I know some of you may be tempted to sign up for a free blog like Blogger, but I never recommend going the free route especially if you are serious about making money with your blog. I don’t know anyone who is actually earning a great income using a free blog.

When you start your blog by investing just a few dollars a month with a self-hosted plan, advertisers, affiliates, and partners will take you more seriously and work with you to monetize your blog. If they see that your blog is hosted on a free platform, they will not be interested in partnering up with you because they may see you as someone who is not serious.

I personally started my blog using Bluehost. I went self-hosted on a very low and affordable plan and was able to generate a healthy six-figure income. By going self-hosted, my income took off and I am now earning over $20,000 per month blogging!

Having that said, I highly recommend you reading what “self-hosted” really means and starting your blog here.

Step 5: Install a Blog theme

Once you have purchased a web hosting plan from step 4, it is time for you to install a Blog theme that you like.

There are both free and paid themes that you can choose from. When you are a beginner with a tight budget, you can always start off with a free theme and play around with it before investing in a more premium theme.

I personally used a free theme called Olsen Light to learn how to build my blog before I invested in the Foodie Pro Theme for two of my blogs. However, things have changed, so I no longer recommend any of those themes.

Today, I only recommend the Astra or Kadence theme for most bloggers (they both offer free versions) – it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced blogger. You can’t go wrong with those themes and it’s something you won’t regret down the road.

Step 6: Build Your Blog!

This is the meat of building and launching your blog – it is the juiciest part!

There are a lot of steps to building a successful blog, from installing a free Google Analytics account to track your traffic, securing your website, downloading plugins (or apps) on your website, creating a blog logo, and fiddling around with your blog theme to making sure your blog posts and pages are properly “optimized” so you will show up on Google searches. Trust me, this part is not rocket science and it’s not hard to implement – it’s just a matter of someone telling you about it and how to do it.

I truly understand the overwhelm with WordPress and the list of administrative things to do as a beginner.

When I was new to this blogging world, NO ONE was willing to help me with this part and it’s the most important part to get right the first time. It is SO important to build a solid foundation for your blog before moving on to the next steps such as getting traffic and making money.

Everyone kept touting how much money you can make with a blog and they were throwing me their courses on how to make money before I’d even had my blog theme set up properly and my first blog post published!

Step 8: Generate more blog posts for your readers

Step 9: Learn how to get traffic to your blog

While you are building your blog with enough content, you can get started with Social media and platforms where you can promote your blog and get traffic.

The two traffic sources I rely on are Pinterest and Google. For new bloggers, I recommend getting started with platforms like Pinterest. I am currently building an archive here where you can find Pinterest traffic tips for beginners. It is the source I use to get over 100,000 monthly page views for my personal finance blog and lifestyle blog.

I also recommend learning one traffic source at a time. It is very hard to manage when you stretch yourself too thin by being on every social media platform like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tik Tok, YouTube, etc.

Once you familiarize yourself with a traffic source and you are getting results from it, you can move on to the next one for better diversification so that you don’t have to rely on one source.

As I always say, less is more!

Step 10: Make money blogging!

After you have started your blog, have set it up properly, and are getting some traffic, you can start learning how to monetize your blog. I have an article here that explains how bloggers get paid and make money with a blog.
